Adding to their woes, Ramesh pointed to the \u201cgreat uncertainty\u201d stemming from ongoing tensions with China. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s \u201cJune 19, 2020, clean chit to China,\u201d which many believe threatens Ladakh\u2019s security and sovereignty.<\/p>\n
Ladakh holds significant cultural, economic, ecological, and strategic importance for India, Ramesh asserted. He stated, \u201cThe distress and anguish of Ladakh\u2019s people must awaken the Government of India\u2019s conscience. It\u2019s imperative to fulfill their legitimate aspirations in full measure at the very earliest.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the aftermath of the violent protests, an uneasy calm has settled over Ladakh. Authorities have enforced a curfew in Leh to maintain order, with police and paramilitary forces closely monitoring the situation. So far, they have detained at least 50 individuals in connection with the unrest sparked by demands for statehood.<\/p>\n
The protests were organized by the Leh Apex Body (LAB), which is advocating for an extension of the Sixth Schedule, aimed at safeguarding the rights of indigenous communities and providing administrative autonomy.<\/p>\n
